Students are encouraged to show an interest in others and to have respect for countries, cultures and religions other than their own. This is actively promoted in the form of both timetabled Citizenship and Current Affairs lessons, and through external community and charitable events.
Regular fundraising activities are arranged for charities in need. A recent Fundraising Week – organised almost entirely by the students – gave to Marie Curie Cancer Care, Mustard Seed Project, Starlight, TearFund and Mercy Ships. An all-school ‘Casualty Evacuation’ Teambuilding Event in the Peak District raised over £20,000 for various charities including the Red Cross, West Midlands Air Ambulance and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. Other well-known charities that have received donations from Coventry Campus include RNLI, Great Ormond Street, Help for Heroes, Mountain Rescue, The Haiti Appeal and Water Aid.
Understanding our role in the local community is also an important part of school life. Community work has included singing to residents in local care homes and renovating local amenities such as a timber bench on a village green and a damaged bridge handrail.
Many expressions of thanks and letters of appreciation have been received as a result of these charitable events.
