Simply follow this step by step guide to be in control of your learning!
What do we already know or think that we know?
It’s important to for you and your teacher to find out what you already know. This will help to guide your start to the assignment and also show you how far you have progressed by the end of the assignment! Complete the pre-assessment tasks to show your understanding and share this with your teacher.
Does the big question or task make you curious?
Write down any questions that you would like to find out about.
Are there any words that you don’t recognise?
Go to the glossary to find the definition. It won’t tell you much more than that, but it’s a start!
How much do I need to find out?
There is no limit to how much you can find out, but to keep you on task and moving in the right direction, make sure you keep checking your assessment criteria to help guide you. Remember to tick each criteria off once you have completed it!
I’ve read my assessment criteria and ready to start, where do I begin?
You should always begin your work with looking through your text book because this is what your course is based around.
You may be given the exact pages where you can start to find the answers or you will be given a chapter to read. To make this task quick and easy, always make a note of the pages so you can easily find the information.
Your teacher may also not give you any pages to read from and leave you to find the information in the text book. To do this, you will need to use the index and search for one of the key words.
Where else can I find information?
Your teacher will provide you with extra texts, website links, and media clips to help you dig deeper into the topic. Before you do this, check out the Britannica website where you can find excellent articles on almost anything!
How will I remember all of this information?!
You should always be making notes, especially when watching a media clip. Getting into this good habit will mean that you can have the information you need for when you come to present your work rather than having to go back to remind yourself. The best bit is that they don’t have to be your neat and final copy!
I think I’ve found everything I need, what next?
Once you feel happy that you have found all the information you need, it’s time to present your findings. Use this opportunity to be creative and present it in a ways that you feel will help you learn the best!
